UK Rugby Fans Agree Johnson Should Leave

47% of UK rugby fans agree that England manager Martin Johnson’s decision to hand in his resignation was the right thing to do; 29% disagreed with the decision.

The results emerged from our poll of 981 rugby fans conducted after the news of his decision came to light.

  • Opinion was split on whether the England team would be better off without him – 36% felt the team would perform better and 34% felt it would be worse.
  • 62% of those polled felt that the RFU, the rugby governing body, influenced Johnson’s decision.

The poll also suggests that rugby fans felt his performance as manager was very average, with 40% of respondents rating his time as ‘neither good nor poor’.

When asked to choose one word to describe his performance, the word ‘average’ clearly stands out, with ‘adequate’, ‘poor’ and ‘disapointing’ also prominent.
